The shape closely relates to early Chesterfield sofas produced by Howard \u0026amp; Sons during the mid-19th century, although no maker’s marks have been found and we would not attribute the sofa directly to the firm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRaised on turned hardwood front legs retaining remnants of their original gilded finish, with the wear to the gilding left untouched. The sofa retains its original gilt brass \u0026amp; Porcelain Cope castor wheels.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTraditionally constructed, with a sprung seat, sprung front edge and horsehair fillings. The frame is firm and sturdy and the sofa is currently stripped and offered for reupholstery. The exposed frame is a pale hardwood, possibly oak.
