Ash with probable elm slab seat. Primitive in its construction. Much of its original dark green paint on show however the chair does show signs of later paint which in its self is very old. The chair has lots of desirable wear to the arms and back and you can just feel the age at your fingertips. This style of chair is attributed to the west country and the cleft arm support is typical from the area in the 18th century. Good solid shape with a nice wide arm bow and seat.
At some point in its life the hoop has had a repair which is visibly in the photos. The repair does appear to be a very old repair and i believe it adds to the chairs overall look and shows its life and character.
